Fort Bend County Libraries has new programs specifically designed for teens in grades 9 through 12. The programs will provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.

In July, George Memorial Library in Richmond will present several programs for the Young Adult (YA) community.

•YA Board-Game Day – Friday, July 6, 2:00 pm, Room 2C. Teens in grades 9-12 who enjoy the challenge, excitement and competition of playing table-top games or card games are invited to test their skills against one another at this special event for young adults entering high school in the fall. A selection of games will be on hand, but those attending the event are welcome to bring their own favorite games as well.

•YA Book Club – Wednesday, July 11, 4:00 pm, Room 2B. Teen readers in grades 9 through 12 will have an opportunity to meet with others who share the same love for good books, and have a lively discussion on the reasons a book or its characters were liked or disliked. In July, readers will discuss The Rest of Us Just Live Here, written by Patrick Ness.

•YA Art Hour – Fridays, July 13 and 27, 2:00 pm, Room 2C. Teens in grades 9-12 can explore their inner artist and discover new ways to express themselves!

•YA Ice-Cream Shake-Up – Friday, July 20, 2:00 pm, Room 2C. Teens in grades 9-12 will cool off from the summer heat with ice cream they make themselves!

Materials for these programs were made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the George Memorial Library. Proceeds from the Friends of the Library book sales and annual membership dues help to underwrite the costs of special programming and various cultural events at George Memorial Library.

These programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call George Memorial Library at 281-342-4455 or the library system’s Communications Office at 281-633-4734.

George Memorial Library is located at 1001 Golfview in Richmond
