Fort Bend County Libraries is kicking off the summer months with programs specifically designed for high school-aged teens in grades 9 through 12. The programs will provide fun and challenging opportunities for these young adults, who are also encouraged to become active participants in designing and orchestrating new activities for teens in the library system.

In June, the First Colony Branch Library will present four exciting programs for the Young Adult community.

•Java for Beginners – Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28; 10:00 am to 12:00 noon; Conference Room. Teens in grades 9 through 12 will learn the basics of computer programming, control structures, and graphics. Each class builds upon skills learned in the previous one. By the end of the 6-part series, participants will have created a simple, playable, user-controlled game or animation.

•FC Computer Camp: Become a PowerPoint Pro – Wednesday, June 13, 2:00 pm, Conference Room. Teens in grades 9 through 12 will learn how to use MS PowerPoint 2010 in fun and creative ways.

•Snapology Combat Robots – Saturday, June 16,1:00 pm, Meeting Room. In this program, presented by Snapology of Sugar Land and Missouri City, students in grades 9 through 12 will learn how to build and program an autonomous robot using LEGO® bricks. Their new skills will be used to build a robot for a friendly competition of robot football and hoop challenges.

•FC Computer Camp: Wix Website Workshop – Wednesday, June 27, 2:00 pm, Conference Room. Teens in grades 9 through 12 will learn how to design a website for free with Wix by starting with a template and customizing it.

These programs are free and open to the public. To register online at the library’s website (www.fortbend.lib.tx.us), click on “Events,” select “First Colony Branch,” and find the program. Participants may also register by calling the library at 281-238-2800, or by visiting the library.
