The Youth Services department at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Sugar Land Branch Library invites youth in grades K-5 to a special 4-month series, “Crazy 8s Math Club,” that will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month this fall, starting September 13 and continuing through December, beginning at 4:15 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 550 Eldridge.

The Crazy 8s Math Club is a totally new kind of club where kids will build stuff, run and jump, make music, and make a mess! In this fun and recreational after-school math club, kids with all mathematical abilities can participate in high-octane activities that will help them enjoy and appreciate the math behind their favorite games. Kids will love mischief-making games like Bouncy Dice Explosion and Toilet Paper Olympics, and will incorporate their analytical skills for cracking secret spy codes and building glow-in-the-dark structures.

The series begins on September 13 with “Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry.” Children will use glow sticks to build geometric shapes and create shape patterns.

The program on September 27 is “Let’s Get Loud!” Children will use water and straws to generate different sounds. They will also use straws to make a pan flute.

Materials for these programs are provided by the Bedtime Math company.

This 4-month special event is free and open to the public. Space is limited to 16 students in grades K through 2, and 16 students in grades 3 through 5. Free hand-stamps are required for admission and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis one hour before the activity. For more information, call the Sugar Land Branch Library at 281-238-2140 or the library system’s Public Information Office at 281-633-4734.
