Fort Bend County Libraries will feature a free “Summer Family Movie Series” at the Albert George Branch Library beginning in June. A variety of movie genres will be shown on Mondays, starting at 2:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library, located at 9230 Gene Street in Needville. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

On Monday, June 5, library patrons will be treated to an animated comedy-adventure film based on the children’s novel, Here Be Monsters, written by Alan Snow. An underground, cave-dwelling community of mischievous creatures adopts and raises an orphaned infant boy named Eggs. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher, threatens to exterminate the underground residents, Eggs must come up with a plan to save his “family.” Eggs ventures into the light above ground where he befriends the fabulously feisty Winnie, who may be the key to solving the longstanding feud between the people above ground and the benevolent creatures below. This movie is rated PG.

The special feature on Monday, June 12, is an animated comedy released in 2016 about a group of pampered pets who live lives of leisure in a Manhattan apartment complex. Max is a beloved terrier who enjoys a quiet life and get-togethers with his friends when his human is gone. His sedate lifestyle is upended, however, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. The two dogs instantly dislike each other, but they must put their quarrels aside when they discover a plot by a deceptively adorable but vicious bunny named Snowball, who is building an army of lost pets to take revenge against the human world. This film is rated PG.

On Monday, June 19, enjoy an Emmy-nominated animated family-adventure film released in 2016 about a young Japanese boy named Kubo. Kubo lives a quiet, normal life until an evil spirit from the past turns his life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta. In order to survive, Kubo must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior. This movie is rated PG.

The movie on Monday, June 26, is an animated comedy about a friendly but forgetful blue tang fish who goes in search of her long-lost parents with the help of a young clown fish and his dad. Her journey brings her to the Marine Life Institute, a conservatory that houses diverse ocean species. Will she be able to rescue her parents from captivity and finally find a place to call home? Released in 2016, this movie is rated PG.

The movies are free and open to the public. The libraries’ licensing agreement for public showing of films prohibits them from releasing the name of the movie outside of the library. For more information about the featured movies, call the Albert George Branch Library at 979-793-4270 or the library system’s Public Information Office at 281-633-4734.
